Guidelines for Application for a Certificate of Character

The Certificate of Character is governed by the Certificate of Character Act 2012 (No 18/2012). It is an official document issued by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions which states whether a person has previous convictions recorded against him/her.

Who may apply?

  • Any Citizen of the Republic of Mauritius;
  • Non Citizen who holds a resident/ work permit in Mauritius

Note: Applicant under 18 years should apply via their responsible party/relatives

 

Where to Apply?  

  1. For citizens of the Republic of Mauritius and Non-citizens in the Republic of Mauritius:

 Either     a) Applicant should register on Maupass and click on the icon Certificate of character, or access the Certificate of Character Portal on https://ecertificateofcharacter.govmu.org

Or       b) Applicant should call at the undermentioned Police Divisional Headquarters of his/her police division for application

Mondays to Fridays   0845 hrs to 1430 hrs

On Saturdays               0845 hrs to 1100 hrs

  1. For citizens and Non-citizens of the Republic of Mauritius applying from foreign countries, Applicant should register on Maupass and click on the icon Certificate of character, or access the Certificate of Character Portal on https://ecertificateofcharacter.govmu.org

Online applicant should upload the undermentioned documents whereas applicant calling at respective Police DHQ should be in possession of the following original documents:

Once ready, Online Applicant will download and print his/her Certificate of Character.

Applicant who applied at DHQ will collect the certificate at the respective office.

A Helpdesk is available at the Crime Record Office. Applicant for Certificate of Character may enquire about the status of his/her application by dialing 2149794 or sending a mail on

 coc-support@govmu.org . Informations such as Name/ Surname/ NIC / Passport No/ Application ID & Reference Number is very important for attending  the request.
