Guidelines for Application for a Certificate of Character

Overview
 
The Certificate of Character is governed by the Certificate of Character Act 2012 (No 18/2012). It is an official document issued by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions which states whether a person has previous convictions recorded against him/her.
 
Who may apply
 
·   Any Citizen of Mauritius;
·   Non Citizen who holds a resident/ work permit in Mauritius.
 
How to apply
 
Contact the Police Divisional Headquarters where you reside with the following documents (the original and two photocopies thereof):
 
·   Birth Certificate(computerized A4 format)
·   National Identity Card/ Passport for Non Citizen
·   Marriage Certificate (where applicable)
·   Proof of Residence in Mauritius
 
Applicants from abroad
 
Applications made from abroad can be processed through the Mauritian Embassy/ High Commission in the country where application is made.
