Guidelines for Application for a Certificate of Registration to perform the duties of Security Guards

Information

 Any person who wishes to perform the duties of a security guard shall have to make an application for a Certificate of Registration to the Commissioner of Police in compliance with The Private Security Service Act 2004.

 Who may apply:

l  Any person aged 18 years and above, who           

Ø  is medically fit; 

Ø  has the appropriate training and skills to perform the duties of security guard; 

Ø  has a clean criminal record.

 

How to apply:

Applicant has to call in person at the Police Prosecution Office (Private Security Section), Sterling House, 10th Floor, Lislet Geoffroy Street, Port-Louis on weekdays, during office hours, between 09:15 and 15:30 hrs or on Saturday, between 09:15 and 11:30 hrs.  For more information, call on 214 1387 (Private Security Section) or on 208 1212 (Police Exchange). 

 

Required Documents: 

Ø  Birth Certificate; (original + copy thereof)

Ø  Marriage Certificate; (original + copy  thereof – applicable to married woman only)

Ø  National Identity Card; (original + copy thereof)

Ø  Two recent passport size photographs;

Ø  A Certificate from a recognized training body as approved by the Commissioner of Police, showing that applicant has the appropriate training and skills to perform the duties of a Security Guard mentioning the duration of the training and bearing full name of applicant with his/her NIC No. (original + copy thereof)

Ø  Medical Certificate (original – name should be clearly written by Doctor as per NIC with NIC Number and for married woman, maiden name to be inserted;

Ø  Prerogative of Mercy- (original + copy thereof) – for those who have been granted free pardon;

 

Required Documents to collect Certificate of Registration: 

Applicant who has been informed that his/her  Certificate of Registration has been approved, should call in person, at the Police Prosecution Office, (Private Security Section), Sterling House, 10th Floor, Lislet Geoffroy Street, Port-Louis on weekdays, during office hours between 09:15 and 14:00 hrs or on Saturday, between 09:00 and 11:00 hrs with his/her NIC and Rs 500/- for payment of the Certificate of Registration. Required Documents to collect Badges: 

Applicant who has been informed that his/her Badge has been approved, should call in person, at the Police Prosecution Office (Private Security Section) , Sterling House, 10th Floor, Lislet Geoffroy Street, Port-Louis on weekdays, during office hours between 09:15 and 14:00 hrs or on Saturday, between 09:15 and 11:00 hrs with his/her NIC and Rs 250/- for payment of the Badge. Validity of Certificate of Registration: 

A Certificate of Registration issued to a security guard is valid for a period of one year as from the specific date mentioned on the Certificate.  Any person who wishes to renew his/her Certificate of Registration is advised to do so at least 21 days before the expiry of the Certificate of Registration. 


Cancellation or suspension of Certificates:
 

The Commissioner of Police may, at any time, cancel or suspend a Certificate of Registration granted to security guard, where latter has failed to comply to any provision of the The Private Security Service Act 2004 or knowingly made misleading statement/declaration  in his Application Form for a licence.
