Overview<\/b><\/p>

Public collection is governed by the Public Collection Act\u00a01965 and only the Commissioner of Police has the authority to accede or reject an application for such activity.<\/p>

Who can apply<\/b><\/p>

<\/b>(a)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Persons requiring medical treatment\/ surgical operation abroad when treatment is not available in Mauritius.<\/p>

(Recommendation from Ministry of Health & Quality of Life required)<\/i><\/p>

<\/i>(b)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Persons, victim in a case of fire.<\/p>

(Memo from Fire & Rescue Services to be enclosed)<\/i><\/p>

<\/i>(c)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Registered charitable Institutions\/ Religious Society for religious ceremony or construction\/ renovation of religious building.<\/p>

(Building Permit to be enclosed)<\/i><\/p>

<\/i>(d) Parents\/ Teachers Association of Educational Institutions for educational purposes.<\/p>

<\/i>How to apply<\/b><\/p>

<\/b>Call in person at the Police Headquarters Line Barracks, Port-Louis on weekdays during office hours between 0830 and 1630 hrs or on Saturday between 0830 and 1230 hrs.\u00a0 For more information, call on 208 1212 (Extn 1407) or 211 0879.<\/p>

Timescales<\/b><\/p>

<\/b>We aim to process your application within 15 days of receipt, provided all the information required is provided. Please note, applications must be submitted at least 15 days prior to the date of the planned collection.<\/p>

What you should know<\/b><\/p>

<\/b>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Any person helping the promoter (person responsible for the public collection) should have with a Collector\u2019s Permit, which should be signed by the promoter and bear the official stamp of the \u2018Office of the Commissioner of Police\u2019 with mention that the \u2018Photocopy of this document is not valid\u2019.<\/p>

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Only the promoter and authorized collectors are allowed to collect money from members of the public on presentation of their permits.<\/p>

Service Charge<\/b><\/p>

<\/b>You do not have to pay for a public collection permit. It is free of charge.<\/p>

Promoter\u2019s duty<\/b><\/p>
